Executive Director

Description of Organization

Tikkun Ha-Ir of Milwaukee, Inc. (also referred to: THI), “repair of the city,” is a non-profit (501-C3) organization founded upon Jewish ethics and values serving the in Milwaukee, Wisconsin metropolitan area. Over the past 20 years THI has become an integral part of the Jewish community’s response to societal inequalities including poverty and hunger by providing leadership and linkages between resources within the Jewish community and requested assistance and advocacy in greater Milwaukee.

Description of Executive Director Position

The Executive Director is the key management leader of Tikkun Ha-Ir. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the organization’s administration, staff and volunteers. The ED will also develop and implement programming, as well as execute THI’s strategic plan. The ED will be responsible for adhering to the organizations’ policies and procedures. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Professional Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience
  • Three or more years’ experience in non-profit organizations
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with excellent inter-personal skills
  • Financial competencies related to budget development management
  • Grant writing
  • Experience in hiring, onboarding, supervising and collaborating with staff
  • Proficiency in organizational areas such as planning, execution, evaluation, time-management
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofit sector
  • Skills to collaborate with and motivate board members and other volunteers
  • Knowledge of Judaic culture and traditions including but not limited to; Jewish holidays, rituals, and customs
  • Competence in development and presentation of Jewish curricula particularly adult education focused on socio-economic disparities
  • Familiarity with issues affecting low-income families
  • Effective writing and oral communication skills
  • Capacity to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups
  • Strong public speaking ability
  • Live within the Milwaukee metropolitan area
  • Flexibility for remote, virtual and in-person work circumstances 
  • Driver’s license, car and car insurance
  • Capacity to accommodate a home office

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary range is $23-$30/hour: commensurate with experience, other qualifications, and agreed upon number of hours per week (range: 25-32 hours/week)
  • Benefits include paid time off, hybrid work environment, flexible work schedule, a home office stipend
